Legacy, Faith, and Long Vision
Day 1: The Faith That Outlives You
Timothy, I thank God for you—the God I serve with a clear conscience, just as my ancestors did. Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. I long to see you again, for I remember your tears as we parted. And I will be filled with joy when we are together again.
I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

- 2 Timothy 1:3-7 NLT
Paul reminds Timothy that the sincere faith dwelling in him did not begin with him. It traveled through his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice before it ever reached his heart. Faith is not merely personal — it is generational. The decisions you make today about how you walk with God are quietly shaping someone who is watching. Dr. Crawford Lorrits observed that when you are born, you look like your parents, but when you die, you look like your decisions. What does your faith look like right now? Who is watching it take shape?
Whose faith has been poured into you, and how are you passing it forward?
Day 2: Leaving More Than Mone
Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren,
but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly.
but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly.
- Proverbs 13:22 NLT
Scripture teaches that a good person leaves an inheritance for their grandchildren — but the inheritance being described here is far deeper than financial wealth. A godly legacy is built through integrity, wisdom, and faithfulness compounded over decades. The inheritance that matters most cannot be deposited in a bank. It is deposited in the lives of those who watch you choose righteousness when compromise would have been easier. Every day you walk in integrity, you are making a deposit into a generational account that your grandchildren may one day draw from without even knowing your name.
What are you currently building that will outlast your lifetime?
Day 3: Walking in Integrity Through Difficulty
David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!”
- Proverbs 20:7 NLT
The person who walks in integrity does not just benefit themselves — their children are blessed as a result. Integrity is not a single dramatic decision. It is the accumulation of small, faithful choices made in ordinary moments when no one appears to be watching. Yet someone is always watching. Children absorb character before they can articulate what character is. They learn what it means to be trustworthy, honest, and faithful by observing the adults in their lives navigate difficulty. Your greatest sermon may never be preached from a pulpit — it may be lived in your home on a Tuesday afternoon.
How does your private character align with your public faith?
Day 4: The Impossible, the Difficult, and the Done
But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors. You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.”
- Hebrews 11:1-2, 6 NLT
Hudson Taylor noted that every great work of God moves through three stages — first it is impossible, then it is difficult, then it is done. Faith is what sustains you through the first two stages long enough to witness the third. Hebrews 11 describes faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen, reminding us that God rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Legacy is built in the impossible and difficult seasons, not just the triumphant ones. The long vision of faith refuses to quit simply because the finish line is not yet visible.
What God-given vision in your life currently feels impossible or merely difficult?
Day 5: Designing a Life Worth Leaving Behind
O my people, listen to my instructions.
Open your ears to what I am saying,
for I will speak to you in a parable.
I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—
stories we have heard and known,
stories our ancestors handed down to us.
We will not hide these truths from our children;
we will tell the next generation
about the glorious deeds of the Lord,
about his power and his mighty wonders.
For he issued his laws to Jacob;
he gave his instructions to Israel.
He commanded our ancestors
to teach them to their children,
so the next generation might know them—
even the children not yet born—
and they in turn will teach their own children.
So each generation should set its hope anew on God,
not forgetting his glorious miracles
and obeying his commands.

- Psalm 78:1-7 NLT
The psalmist calls one generation to tell the next about the mighty works of God — so that children not yet born would one day rise and tell their own children. Legacy requires intentionality. Dr. Crawford Lorrits reminds us that your life is perfectly designed for the results you are getting. If the results are not what you hoped for, the design must change. A life worth leaving behind is not accidental. It is prayed over, submitted to God, and lived with the next generation in view. The long vision sees beyond your own lifetime and builds accordingly.
If the trajectory of your current life continued unchanged for twenty years, what legacy would it produce?
Weekly Challenge
This week, challenge yourself to look beyond the moment and consider the legacy your life is building. Every decision, every act of obedience, and every step of faith is shaping a story that will outlive you.
Take time to identify one intentional step you can take to leave a lasting spiritual legacy. Whether it's investing in someone's faith, strengthening your integrity, sharing what God has done, or remaining faithful through a difficult season, choose to live with the next generation in mind.
Remember: Legacy isn't built in a single moment. It's built through a lifetime of faithful obedience.
What you do today has the power to influence generations you'll never meet.
