Mountain Air

What does it actually look like to live out the teachings of Jesus in our everyday lives? In Matthew 7, Jesus brings the Sermon on the Mount to its most practical and urgent conclusion, moving us from vision to decision. We explore the danger of a critical spirit and how judgment has a way of circling back to us, the simplicity of approaching God in prayer with the directness of a child, and the golden rule reframed not as a passive ideal but as an active, initiative-taking posture toward others. The air on the mountain is cleaner and more refreshing than what we breathe in the noise and pollution of daily life, and this passage invites us to ask honestly what kind of air we have been filling our lungs with. The spiritual checkup here is not about guilt but about awareness, examining the fruit our lives are producing and tracing it back to the roots of our relationship with God. If love, joy, peace, patience, and gentleness feel distant, something in the foundation may need attention, and Jesus is pointing us toward the honest, sometimes uncomfortable work of finding out what that is.
