FORMED THROUGH TRIALS

Day 1: Finding Rest in God's Presence

The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.
                                                  - Mark 6:30-32  NLT

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
    He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
    bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
    protect and comfort me.

  - Psalm 23:1-4 NLT
When Jesus told His disciples to come away and rest, He recognized a profound truth: spiritual strength requires physical renewal. Like Elijah exhausted under the broom tree, we often push ourselves to the breaking point, forgetting that God designed us with human limitations. Rest is not weakness; it is wisdom. When David wrote about walking through the darkest valley, he emphasized God's presence, not our endurance. Today, God may be calling you to simply stop, eat, sleep, and recover your strength. The battle ahead requires a rested warrior.

What area of your life needs intentional rest? God is not impressed by your exhaustion; He is concerned for your wholeness.

Day 2: The Gentle Whisper of God

There he came to a cave, where he spent the night.

But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 1And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.  When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.

And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

- 1 Kings 19:9-13 NLT

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me..
- John 10:27NLT
Elijah knew God in the dramatic—fire from heaven, miraculous rain, powerful victories. Yet in his deepest despair, God met him not in wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a gentle whisper. Many of us know God only in Sunday morning dynamics but have lost the intimacy of His quiet voice. Depression often drives us into dark caves of isolation, but God calls us to stand on the mountain in His presence. The whisper requires stillness, intentionality, and listening. Your morning time with God is not religious obligation; it is life-giving connection.

Before the noise of your day begins, can you create space to hear His gentle whisper? He is speaking; are you positioned to listen?

Day 3: Remembering Your True Identity

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.  God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.  So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.  He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan.  And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God.  And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.  The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

- Ephesians 1:3-14 NLT

‘This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!’
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
Elijah covered his face and repeated the same lie: "I am the only one left." When we believe lies about ourselves, we pull a cloak over our true identity. The enemy's greatest weapon is not external circumstances but internal deception. You are not defined by your failures, your feelings, or your fears. You are a child of the Most High God—chosen, redeemed, blessed, and called for purpose. The words you speak over yourself matter profoundly. Stop rehearsing the enemy's script and start declaring God's truth. You are the head and not the tail, above and not beneath.

What lie have you been believing about yourself? Today, replace it with Scripture. Your identity is not determined by your trial but by your Creator.

Day 4: The Purpose in Perseverance

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
- James 1:2-4 NLT

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love..
- Romans 5:3-5 NLT
"Consider it pure joy when you face trials" sounds impossible until you understand the purpose. Trials are not punishment; they are formation. God is not trying to break you but to make you mature and complete. Like a weightlifter who grows stronger through resistance, your faith develops through testing. Depression whispers that trials are the end; God declares they are the process. Perseverance is not passive endurance but active trust that God is working something greater in you. The trial you face today is forming you for something more tomorrow.

What if your current struggle is actually preparing you for your next level? Embrace the process. The testing of your faith produces perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope.

Day 5: Standing Firm Against the Enemy

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.
- 1 Peter 5:8-10 NLT

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
- Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT
Your enemy prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to devour through fear, isolation, and lies. Jezebel's message to Elijah was not a decree but intimidation—a spiritual attack designed to make him run. When you resist the devil and stand firm in faith, he must flee. Many battles you face are more spiritual than you realize. The flat tire might be just a flat tire, but the pattern of fear, the persistent lies, the overwhelming isolation—these bear the enemy's fingerprints. You were never meant to fight alone or in your own strength. Put on God's armor daily. Stand firm in truth. Refuse to believe the lies. Surround yourself with godly people.

Where have you been running instead of standing? Today, take your position. In Christ, you are more than a conqueror.
